The café’s diverse menu reads like a delicious love letter to Southern-American classics, featuring standout dishes that beckon food lovers from near and far. Crave something zesty? Their Fish Tacos burst with fresh, flaky fish adorned with bright, tangy toppings. If you prefer something richer, the Cajun Shrimp Pasta offers a silky, spice-kissed experience that perfectly balances heat and creaminess. For true comfort, the Chicken Pot Pie is a warm hug on a plate, filled with tender chicken and flaky crust, creating a satisfying and nostalgic bite.

But Ragtime Cafe isn’t just about the mains. Appetizers like the addictive B’Ham’S Best Buffalo Wings and the indulgent Loaded Potato Skins make every visit a treat. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared, showcasing ingredients that maintain a balance between loaded indulgence and refined Southern hospitality. The culinary craftsmanship here shines through in every spoonful of their Homemade Soup Of The Day or slice of the Quiche Of The Day, perfect for those seeking lighter yet flavorful meals.

Guests consistently praise Ragtime Cafe’s warm, inviting atmosphere that feels bustling yet friendly. Reviewer Danny Harris sums it up best — no matter how busy it gets, the service remains attentive and the food flawless, prompting many to make this their repeated favorite during visits to the area. Whether perched at the bar where regulars like Lam greet you by name or seated inside the cozy dining area, the experience feels personal and welcoming. Emily Deering’s discovery of Ragtime as an accidental find describes an immediate love for not just the food, particularly the outstanding burgers, but also the genuine hospitality and ease of seating despite the café’s popularity.

The passion behind Ragtime’s kitchen is tangible. Tony and Lisa Harris’ glowing praise for the blackened grouper with crab meat and the best crab cakes they've ever tasted highlights the restaurant’s ability to challenge expectations — especially when it comes to exceptional seafood far from the coast. And for those who like their meals with a touch of heat, Ed Mahayag’s recommendation of pairing their Gumbo soup or Shrimp Cajun Pasta with Crystal hot sauce epitomizes those bold flavors Ragtime proudly serves.

For anyone passing through Birmingham or locals craving a dependable classic with a creative spark, Ragtime Cafe is a culinary haven that serves up more than just meals—it offers memorable dining moments filled with hearty plates, expertly crafted drinks, and genuine smiles. I'm not from Hoover, but every time I visit, I eat here at least twice during my weekly stays. The food is ALWAYS good and the service is great. They have a wide variety of choices in addition to a weekly specials menu. If you plan on eating here for dinner, then get there early. Ragtime is always packed for dinner. Hands down on my top 10 places to eat! I love this place

I've never eaten IN the restaurant, but I have gotten food to go more times than I can count and been to 2 private events... EVERYTHING is good. I have tried so many dishes and have literally never been disappointed. Current favorites: the pimento cheese turkey burger and the shrimp and avocado salad

Great local cafe! At the bar, Lam knows your name. Service and food were great for a busy Thursday afternoon. Had some Gumbo soup and Shrimp Cajun Pasta with nothing better than some Crystal hot sauce. Hit the spot with a cold brew. Stop by for a treat! Will be back soon!

My wife and I ate here passing through Birmingham. My rule is not to eat seafood away from the coast. They killed my rule. I had the blackened grouper with crab meat with cilantro lime sauce, and my wife had the fried ragtime crab cakes. It was absolutely amazing. My wife said it was the best crab cake she has ever eaten and they served her two huge crab cakes. My grouper was not overseasoned either. We consider ourselves foodies and will come back here and highly recommended it and the service was top notch.

Found by accident and hands down one of the best places I’ve eaten at in a long time. Never had a better burger from a restaurant in my life. They were super busy and still got seated immediately. Staff was super friendly! Atmosphere was great! I seriously have zero complaints. Only time i normally do reviews is when I don’t like a place but this place was so good I had to leave a review. Everyone agreed Ragtime will be a monthly lunch break restaurant for us to eat at ????????

First time visiting this cafe. The food was savory. I did have to send the sweet potato fries back because they were cold. Also, leftovers didn’t reheat very well. The servers were phenomenal and very attentive.

This is a great choice for all types of food. It's fresh and served up hot. It was packed with customers, and still got a seat. It's very worth eating here. It seemed like the business to the west was closed on Monday, so plenty of parking over there. I had a steak burger, which was delicious and I'd order it again. It came with fries, which were also very good. Great choice when I'll on this area next time.

We’ve been to Ragtime twice. First was on Valentine’s Day and the place was packed. We ordered the ribeye and the crab cakes. Ribeye was good nothing amazing and the crab cakes were delicious. Service was somewhat slow and a bit impersonal but understandable as they were very busy and probably trying to get people in and out. The bartender was very friendly while we waited for a table, they aperol spritz wasn’t that good though and they were out of the Bourbon for the drink ordered. Next time went back and busy again this time service still wasn’t great and the ribeye was pretty cold inside and mediocre tasting. The pecan and basil crusted salmon was good, the twice baked potatoes were very salty and I wasn’t a fan of the taste. The atmosphere is fairly loud and the seating is very close together. Probably won’t be back for a third time.
